It began its activity in 1929 when the Koschwitz family – local art connoisseurs, donated a building on today’s Piłsudski Street for the very purpose. It was a typical museum imitating famous in XIX century Germany salons of nature and peculiarity. In 1964 it was moved to a medieval former monastery ground of Bernardines. Since 1986 the exhibitions has displayed the main collections of the museum together with the collections of some other museums or private collectors and the works of modern artists. The museum owns over 4500 exhibits. The collections consist of some artistic and historical works of art., among others there are painting, graphic art., sculpture, an impressive collection of works on the history and culture of Jawor and the region, military pieces and guilds exhibits. There are also archaeological exhibits from Neolithic age till the Roman Empire times or the ethnographic ones as the collection of the pieces of furniture, glass paintings and Silesian bonnets. There can as well be found the collections of mineralogy, palaeontology and nature. Moreover, within the gothic church there has been The Silesian Sacred Art Gallery since 1994.
